Kelly Williams turned in a vintage performance to help TNT preserve its unbeaten record with an 83-76 win over Magnolia Pambansang Manok to remain on top of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.

The 39-year-old Williams, who came back after a brief retirement, continued to play like fine wine by posting 13 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and three blocks as the Tropang Giga improved to a 6-0 record.

Williams together with long-time teammate Jayson Castro and Poy Erram knocked key three-point shots for TNT to prevent Magnolia from erasing a 13-point deficit in the same period.

No TNT team has started 6-0 under Reyes, who hopes to keep his team sharp as they await the next schedule of games the league will put out.

“We’re a work in progress,” said Reyes, who also posted the 6-0 start of his storied coaching career. “We’re not thinking of the record, we’re not thinking of anything else but to get better.”

Castro finished with 17 points, four assists and three steals, rookie Mikey Williams had 14 points, five assists and two steals, RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario added 12 and 11 points while Erram produced nine points and 10 rebounds.

Calvin Abueva scored a game-high 23 points but was dealing with foul trouble as the Hotshots dropped to a share of second place with the idle Meralco Bolts at 5-2, the latter holding the tiebreaker following the 95-94 comeback win at their expense last Sept. 1.

Paul Lee had 13 points but was only 3-of-11 and played just 11 minutes in the second half after his head whiplashed into the back of teammate Rafi Reavis in the third quarter.

Kelly Williams ended the third with a buzzer-beating three from the corner for a 59-52 TNT lead. The Tropang Giga opened the final canto with leads of 66-54 on Kelly’s three and 69-56 courtesy of Castro’s triple.

Magnolia got to six thrice late in the fourth, but everytime the lead dwindled to that margin, TNT was able to bury timely triples from Williams, Castro and Erram, whose open attempt from the top of the key made it 81-72 with a minute left.
