Barangay councilor, 2 others arrested in Butuan for smuggling bullets, food supplies to NPA
Police and military forces have intercepted fresh supplies of bullets and food supplies intended for communist rebels operating in CARAGA region and nearby areas during a joint operation in Butuan City.
The transporters? A barangay councilor identified as 27-year old Ferdinand Dagium and two others later named as 34-year old Rolando Dagium and 26-year old Marvin Pepito Merencillo.
The Dagium brothers are residents of Barangay Magsaysay, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur.

Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat, director of the Police Regional Office-CARAGA, said the operation stemmed from the report about the possible transport of fresh supplies that would pass by Butuan City on Saturday, Sept. 4.
Policemen and soldiers then set up checkpoints in all possible routes which resulted in the interception of the contraband at around 8 p.m. in Purok 1B, Barangay Pianing in Butuan City loaded on three motorcycles driven by the three suspects.
During the operation, the Dagium brothers tried to elude arrest but were later cornered after a brief chase.
Seized were 4,800 pieces of 7.62 AK 47 live ammunition, two pieces rifle grenades, three units of single motorcycles; and assorted food supplies.

“The suspects were positively identified as couriers under the NEMRC (Northeaster Mindanao Regional Command ) of the CPP-NPA-NDF. They have been under surveillance of intelligence units of the government,” said Caramat.
The suspects were will be charged on the violations of RA (Republic Act) 10591 or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act” and RA 9516 or “Codifying the Laws on Illegal/Unlawful Possession, Manufacture, Dealing in, Acquisition or Disposition of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives or Instruments Used in the Manufacture of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives, and Imposing Stiffer Penalties for Certain Violations Thereof, and for Relevant Purposes”.
