For Christ's sake: Roque says 'corruption admission' quote card is fake news
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has branded as "fake news" an online quote card bearing his face and a rather hilarious statement that traced back corruption to the time of Jesus Christ.

But more than that, the dubious quote card also contained a tacit admission of ongoing corruption in government.
"Fake news alert!!! #MasMabutiAngMayAlam," wrote Roque in a Facebook post Saturday, Sept. 4 , obviously drawing attention to the accompanying photo.
"SMNI News strongly disowns this FAKE QUOTE CARD which is now circulating in social media," read part of the photo's message. Apparently, the unknown tricksters used the particular media outlet to give the quote card credence.
"Any MISREPRESENTATION or UNAUTHORIZED USE of our logo and social media materials will be seen as a violation and will be subject to legal action or penalty from SMNI News," the message-slash-warning further read.
Quote cards are created and used by online media outlets to grab readers' attention as they scroll down the content of their social media accounts.
To say that the fake quote from Roque is attention-grabbing is a quite understatement. Its premise was also so absurd, it was funny.
It reads as follows: "Nakakasawang isyu ang corruption. Panahon pa ni Hesus, may corruption na. So what kung, kung mas malala pa ngayon. Manalo muna kayo ng eleksiyon at kayo naman ang magnakaw kung gusto niyo! (The corruption issue is tiresome. Even in the time of Jesus, there was corruption already. So what if it's even worse today. Go win the elections first so that you may also steal of you want to!)"
The corruption-themed quote card made rounds on the Internet even as allegations of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) fund misuse continue to hound President Duterte this late into his term.
Part of these allegations is the administration’s alleged procurement last year of overpriced medical supplies, including personal protective equipment or PPEs. Roque has argued against such claims.
