PH COVID-19 tally rise to 2.54 million with over 14K more infections

The country logged 14,286 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Thursday, Sept. 30.

With the detection of new cases, the country's cumulative tally of confirmed infections soared to 2,549,966, wherein 5.4 percent or 138,294 remain active or patients are still sick.

Seventy-seven percent of the active cases showed mild symptoms, 15.8 percent were without symptoms, 3.72 percent were in moderate condition, two percent were severe, and 0.9 percent were in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the DOH said it observed an increase in the number of asymptomatic cases. DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they are currently analyzing this trend.

“Pinag-aaralan natin iyan ngayon, pero ang masasabi lang namin ngayon na because number of cases are increasing, therefore tumataas din itong mga kaso natin na mayroong mild and asymptomatic cases (We are studying that now, but all we can say now is that because the number of cases are increasing, therefore our mild and asymptomatic cases are also increasing),” said Vergeire.

“We would like to also see if yung paggamit natin ng ibang methods ng pagtetest (the use of other testing methods) have an effect on this increasing number of mild and asymptomatic , but our number one assumption would be the vaccines are working for all of us. But again evidence should be there, so we are now analyzing,” she added.

The death toll climbed to 38,294, which represents 1.50 percent of the total number of cases. These also include the 130 new fatalities reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 8,268 more patients recovered, bringing the survivor tally to 2,373,378 or 93.1 percent of the total case count.
