Pateros second in COVID-19 incidence in NCR

Pateros, the smallest local government unit (LGU) in Metro Manila, placed second in the National Capital Region (NCR) based on one-week coronavirus disease (COVID-19) incidence.

According to data published by OCTA Research on Sept. 30, Pateros has an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 47.69, or the number of new daily cases per 100,000 from Sept. 23 to 29. Its average number of new daily cases for the same period stood at 33, a decrease of 9 percent compared to the previous week.

This placed Pateros in second place based on ADAR behind San Juan, which is No. 1 with an ADAR of 74.72 new daily cases per 100,000 for the given period.

According to OCTA Research, Pateros, Valenzuela, Navotas, Manila, Malabon and Pasay are classified as moderate risk based on the COVID Act Now website in the US on average of incidence, ADAR, intensive care unit (ICU) and positivity rate.

Pateros has an infection (reproduction number R1) of 0.78, ICU occupancy of 17 percent and hospital bed occupancy of 83 percent as of Sept. 28.

Based on the municipal government’s own data, Pateros has 384 active COVID-19 cases including 35 new cases for the day as of Sept. 25, its last update, out of 7,156 confirmed cases, 6,679 recoveries and 89 deaths.

Of the total active cases, 376 are under isolation while eight are scheduled for isolation. A total of 223 (58 percent) of the active cases are asymptomatic and 161 (42 percent) are mild cases.

Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III recently drew controversy over his policy to put yellow ribbons on houses with positive COVID-19 cases and their close contacts. He later clarified that it is voluntary and no one will be forced to do it.

All houses with positive cases and their close contacts will be placed under granular lockdown and occupants are not allowed to go out for 14 days. Ponce said the municipal government will provide assistance to the affected houses.
