One Godly Vote campaign not about endorsing a politician, says CBCP official

An official of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said the One Godly Vote campaign is not about endorsing a politician.

"This campaign will not focus on personalities... it's not about endorsing a politician," Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary of the CBCP Public Affairs Committee, said during the Laging Handa public briefing Thursday, Sept. 30.

"We will not endorse any candidate. That is not the nature of the Catholic Church," he added.

"Actually, it will dwell more on the issues that affect the country and the Filipinos," said Secillano.

It was early September when the One Godly Vote campaign was launched.

During the launch, Secillano said that the goal of the campaign is to educate voters in using the framework of Catholic social teaching to examine candidates.

"The evangelization part will emphasize morality and ethics in governance. Legal and secular principles alone are not sufficient in addressing our country’s ills," he said.

"As it now stands, there is a great deal of leaving morality and ethics out of the public sphere. This campaign seeks to reclaim these principles and ultimately make them as one of the standards by which we measure the candidates," added Secillano.

He also said that the OGV is not a program of the CBCP or the Archdiocese of Manila rather of Radio Veritas.
