More qualified personnel hired with new height requirement- BJMP

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said on Thursday, Sept. 30, that it was able to hire more qualified personnel when the minimum height requirements were lowered through the Republic Act (RA) 11459 or the Height Equality Act.
“We are grateful to Senator Ronald dela Rosa for putting all efforts in ensuring the passage of the law on height equality,” BJMP chief Jail Director Allan S. Iral said.
With the new relaxed height requirement, the BJMP noted that they were able to accept 510 out of the 2,215 jail officers 1 “benefitted from RA 11459 or the PNP (Philippine National Police), BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection), BJMP and BUCOR (Bureau of Corrections) Height Equality Act.’’
“Imagine the 510 talented young individuals he saved from unemployment and their families in this time of pandemic. Malaking tulong talaga ang batas na ito (This law is a big help),” he added.
Previously, the minimum height requirement for male jail officer one is five feet and four inches and 5 feet and 2 inches for female applicants.
With the passage of the law in May 2021, the male height requirement was lowered to 5 feet and 2 inches and 5 feet for female applicants. (Chito A. Chavez)
