LOOK: This local beauty brand embraces inclusivity and real skin

It's about time!

Less is more, we always say. And Issy & Co. launched a base makeup line that's all about skinmalism, choosing the bare necessities that would still make us look put-together. Their Skin on the Go 2.0 collection delivers these "basic" needs.

The Active Skin Tint line, P499, has nine adaptable shades with each shades selected carefully to match each and every Filipino skin—three light shades, three medium shades, and three deep shades. "We’re proud to be the brand that offers the most diverse selection of shades... And due to the overwhelming support from our customers, we’re able to push the boundaries even further this time. We listened to what they needed and wanted, went back to the drawing board, and researched how we can develop our base makeup line—and make it even better," explains Issy & Co. co-founder and creative director Joel Andrade. Did we mention that it now comes in a an improved squeeze-type packaging with a metal cap?

They've also expanded by adding the Active Concealer, P399, that complements the Active Skin Tint line. "Inclusivity is all about having more people join the conversation,” Andrade continues. “It’s not just about adding one dark shade to the range and that’s it. The goal is to add more depth. We want this collection to introduce the concept of ‘depth’ into the vocabulary of the local market’s understanding of what complexion or skin tone is." The formula boasts of skin-restoring and hydrating glycerin, oil-aborting bentonite clay, and avocado extract to help calm the skin from irritation, and sodium hyaluronate that helps maintain the skin’s water balance.

Andrade further explains that it's not just light to dark shades, there's also depth when it comes to hues. "To explain, the spectrum isn’t like a straight one to 10 line that goes from light to dark. It doesn’t work that way... Instead, think of it as an x and y chart. Yes, there’s a light to dark spectrum, but there’s also a spectrum of depth, which is about the undertone and how deep the undertone is," reveals Andrade.

“Usually, when you’re using concealer, it implies that your skin is acting out, or maybe your skin is tired from a lack of sleep,” muses Andrade. “So we want our concealers to include soothing properties. It doesn’t cure your pimples, but it doesn’t interfere with your nighttime spot treatment or cause further irritation. Essentially, we want you to end up not having to use our concealers—the more you use it, the less you need it!”

But will one concealer work for the whole face? Issy & Co. recommends getting two—one in a true tone shade to cover up blemishes, and a lighter one to apply on your under eyes and other spots that need lifting and brightening. "The concealers are water-based like our skin tints—the two blend perfectly well together. In fact, if you combine the two, you get a formula that gives you foundation-like coverage," shares Andrade.

Lastly, they added a new finish to their Weightless Loose Powder, P349. From its current collection of Mattifying, Illuminating, and Translucent loose powder finishes, it now introduces another finish called Radiant that's all about glow with pearlescent particles that bring the much needed glow.

When asked what these new products are all about... “It’s real skin for real people. It’s not about covering up. It’s your skin—but better," ends Andrada.
