Laguna deals San Juan first loss, Iloilo remains unbeaten in PCAP
Laguna dealt San Juan its first loss in the Northern Division while Iloilo remained flawless in the Southern Division of Professional Chess Association of the Philippines’ (PCAP) third conference online tournament Wednesday.
The Laguna Heroes pulled off a 12.5-8.5 victory over the San Juan Predators for a share of the lead in their division with identical 8-1 win-loss records, while the Iloilo Kisela Knights dumped the Iriga City Oragons, 16-5, and the Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, 15.5-5.5, to extend their winning streak to eight matches.
FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus, Michella Concio and Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo delivered the victories for Laguna in the rapid event, where the squad prevailed, 8-6, on three wins, two draws and two defeats.
Laguna also ruled in the blitz, 4.5-2.5.
Iloilo, meanwhile, hardly broke a sweat in dispatching Iriga as Grandmaster joey Antonio, Fiona Guirhem, Cesar Mariano, National Master John Michael Silvederio, Fritz Bryan Porras and Mark Jossel Mariano besting their rivals for a 6-1 blitz win.
The Kisela Knights also posted five wins against two losses for a 10-4 victory in rapid.
Iloilo also cruised early against Lapu Lapu with a 5.5-1.5 win in blitz before following it up with a 10-4 triumph in rapid.
Camarines also dealt Negros its first defeat with a 3-0 win in the Armageddon playoff after a 10.5-tie in the regulation.
Ellan Asuela, Robert Suelo and Virgen Gil Ruaya defeated NM Rolzon Roullo, FM Nelson Mariano III and FM Mari Joseph Turqueza, respectively, in the playoff round to improve their standings to 5-3 at fourth place.
Negros, for its part, slipped to second with 7-1.
