Taguig's Delta variant cases rise to 26

Cases of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) increased to 26 in Taguig, according to a report.

This is an increase of five cases, or 24 percent, from 21 Delta variant cases listed by the Department of Health (DOH) last Aug. 26 based on the genome sequencing run as of Aug. 21. The Delta variant is a strain of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Dr. Alethea de Guzman, director of the Department of Health (DOH) Epidemiology Bureau, presented a new report on the new Delta variant cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) based on the Aug. 27 run during an online press briefing with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Thursday.

In previous reports, the DOH used the label “Total Delta Variant Cases” in presenting the data table for the NCR but changed it to “Variant of Concern Presence.”

De Guzman identified the “Variant of Concern Presence” numbers as local Delta variant cases during the Go Negosyo online briefing last Aug. 23.

According to the latest report by the DOH, Taguig has 2,928 active COVID-19 cases as of Sept. 1 with a moving two-week growth rate (TWGR) of 78.59 percent and a moving average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 41.7.

Taguig and other local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region have high risk classification by the DOH. Its beds utilization is at 78.17 percent while its ICU (intensive care unit) utilization is at 75 percent.

On Sept. 1, Taguig added 278 new COVID-19 cases to bring the total active cases to 1,878 out of 36,661 confirmed cases. It also logged 34,486 recoveries and 297 deaths.

The Taguig City government has vaccinated 634,166 individuals with the first dose while 316,386 people are now fully vaccinated.
