PH Red Cross to distribute aid for typhoon-hit Batanes after ECQ
The distribution of assistance given by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to Batanes will push through after the the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is lifted around the first week of October.

PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Office (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon directed the provision of aid to Batanes as the province was greatly affected by Typhoon “Kiko.”
Non-food items (NFIs) were shipped and arrived on Sept. 25. These goods were unloaded on Sept. 28 to forego port congestion as another ship containing perishable food items needed immediate unloading.
Batanes received 1,000 tarpaulins, 1,000 Jerry cans or water containers, 500 sets of shelter tool kits, 1,500 flashlights, 263 solar lamps, and 20 family tents. The shipment also contained 50 sacks of rice to support the local government’s food distributions.
PRC Batanes Chapter also received an emergency fund, a motorcycle, two portable generator units, a portable speaker, hard hats, face masks, and vitamins to support their on-going operations in response to Typhoon “Kiko.”
A resolution from the Provincial Government of Batanes formally asked the PRC, through Gordon, to extend assistance to the province early this week.

After receiving the request, Gordon assured the province of aid noting that the PRC is “more than willing to extend assistance to the province of Batanes as we did in response to Super Typhoon Ferdie (Meranti) in 2016 and the magnitude 5.9 earthquake in 2019.”
The PRC and the local government unit of Batanes are planning collaboration efforts to assist families needing shelter repair assistance.
Initially, PRC sent shelter tool kits and tarpaulins to be used as temporary roofing and walls for families with damaged houses.
