Mayor Malapitan to seek congressional seat in 2022 elections

Mayor Oscar "Oca" Malapitan will run for Congress representing the first district of Caloocan City in the May 22 elections.

Malapitan announced his decision during the presentation of candidates of Team Aksyon at Malasakit on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

"Hindi ko naman sila iiwan pagkatapos ng aking termino sa June 30, 2022 o sa darating na filing. Ako ho ay magpa-file bilang congressman o kinatawan sa unang distrito ng Caloocan (I will not leave them after my term on June 30, 2022 or in the upcoming filing. I will file my candidacy for congressman or representative in the first district of Caloocan)," he announced.

Malapitan has been serving as Caloocan City mayor from 2013 to present.

During his speech, Malapitan shared the accomplishments his administration during his three terms as the city mayor.

"Nakita po natin kung anong nangyari sa loob ng aking siyam na taon na panunungkulan. Binigyan natin ng karangalan ang Caloocan. Tayo lamang at Mandaluyong sa buong Metro Manila ang nakakuha ng limang sunod-sunod na parangal -- ang seal of good local governance, ibig sabihin mabuting pamamahala, may transparency, naibibigay ang pangangailangan ng ating mamamayan (We've seen what happened during my nine years in office. We and Mandaluyong are the two cities in the entire Metro Manila that received an award for five consecutive years -- the seal of good local governance, meaning good governance, transparency, providing the needs of our people)," he said.

He also noted that the Department of Finance has awarded the city as the 8^th best city in the Philippines.
