
The Department of Health (DOH) reported 633 new coronavirus variant cases in the country.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Sept. 29, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that 633 new variant cases were detected from the 748 sequenced samples during the latest genome sequencing run of the Philippine Genome Center.
Out of the 633 cases, 339 cases were Delta variant, 186 cases were Beta variant, 98 cases were Alpha variant, nine were P.3 variant, and one Gamma variant case, said Vergeire.
These brought the total number of Delta variant cases in the country to 3,366; Beta variant cases to 2,920; Alpha variant cases to 2,559; P.3 variant cases to 461; and Gamma variant cases to three.
Vergeire also noted that among the 633 new variant cases, 609 are local cases, 17 are returning overseas Filipinos, while seven are still currently being verified if these are local cases or returning overseas Filipinos.
“Nasa 616 din po sa mga kasong ito ay gumaling na, 10 ang namatay, lima ang active cases, habang dalawang kaso naman ay kasalukuyan na inaaalam ang kanilang kalagayan (Of these, 616 cases have already recovered, 10 died, five are active cases, while the health status of the two other cases are still being verified),” she noted.
“Ang huling batch na ito ay kasama sa retrospective samples from the months of April to June 2021 para makatulong sa epidemiologic and phylogenetic analysis and mapping na ginagawa ng DOH with the Philippine Genome Center (This latest batch of genome sequencing run were among the retrospective samples from the months of April to June 2021 to help in the epidemiologic and phylogenetic analysis and mapping being conducted by the DOH with the Philippine Genome Center),” she added.
