The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expressed readiness for the start of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) on Oct. 1.

"The Comelec is ready. Our field offices are all preparing," Elaiza David-Sabile, Director of the Comelec Education and Information Department during the Laging Handa forum Wednesday, Sept. 29.
"I can say it's all systems go even at the national level of the filing that will be held at Sofitel," she added.
The Comelec has set the filing of COC for the May 2022 polls from Oct. 1 to 8.
Meanwhile, Sabile said there are already more than 5 million new registrants as of Sept. 18.
"As of Sept. 18 we already have 5,400,000 new registrants," she said.
The poll official said this is higher than their 4 million target.
In all, Sabile said, there are close to 62 million registered for next year's polls.
But in a television interview, Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said there are more than 63 million registered voters.
The Comelec on Wednesday approved the extension of voter registration until Oct. 30.
