Another monastery hit by COVID-19 in Rizal

Another monastery has been hit by the coronavirus disease after 12 nuns tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a report of DZBB, 12 out of 16 nuns of Carmel of Mary Star of the Sea monastery in Tanay, Rizal contracted COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated against the virus, except for one who is undergoing chemotherapy.

"Mga age range nila ay nasa 40 pataas so yung iba ay asymptomatic. Yung iba naman sinisipon at inuubo (Their age ranges from 40 and above so some them are asymptomatic. The others have coughs and colds)," Special Adviser of the Carmelite Monastery Fr. Miguel Condes said.

According to Condes, the initial infection may have come from one of the nuns who went out of the monastery to have her eye checked following an accident.

"Sa kahahanap nila ng ospital na magaaccomodate sa kanila, nakahanap naman sila pero pagbalik yata dun na nila kumbaga nakuha sa hospital yung pagiging positive nila (After looking for a hospital that can accommodate them, they eventually found one. I think that is also where she may have contracted the virus)," he said.

The priest said all COVID-19 positive nuns are under quarantine in separate rooms and the management is closely monitoring them as well its other staff.

Meanwhile, a mental health health facility in Antipolo City, Rizal, has also been placed under granular lockdown after most of its staff contracted COVID-19.

Antipolo City spokesperson Jun Ynares, said that after one of the staff of Villa Herzon Mental Health Center tested positive for COVID-19, the Antipolo City Health Office, on the orders of Mayor Andrea “Andeng” Ynares, immediately conducted a disease investigation in the facility and found out that 10 out of its 31 staff and employees have flu-like symptoms such as cough, colds, sore throat, and body aches.
