The typhoon with the international name "Mindulle" is about to enter the northeastern boundary of the country's area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday evening, Sept. 28.

As of 10 p.m., the center of the eye of Mindulle was estimated at 1,420 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.

Based on the latest forecast, Mindulle may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and will be named "Lannie."

PAGASA said the typhoon may only stay briefly inside the PAR as it is seen to exit the region within 24 hours.

"However, considering that the typhoon has been tracking more north-northwestward over the past couple of hours, there is an increasing possibility that it may not enter the PAR region at all," it pointed out.

Mindulle was packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph while moving north-northwest slowly.

PAGASA said the typhoon is unlikely to directly affect the country's weather condition but moderate to rough seas will prevail over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon in the next 24 hours.

"These conditions are risky for those using small sea crafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions," it warned.

Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions may persist over Metro Manila and the rest of the country in the next 24 hours.

However, PAGASA continued to advise the public to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides especially during the occurrence of severe thunderstorms that are often associated with short-lived heavy rains.
