Food trucks of PH Red Cross served 26,500 meals since August

More than 26,500 meals were provided by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to individuals who are affected by the ongoing public health crisis.

As of Sept. 16, PRC said that through its food trucks, a total of 26,574 have been served amid the Delta variant surge since August.

In line with its initiatives to assist those in need, PRC deployed one of its 23 “Hot Meals on Wheels” food trucks and catered lunch to children, senior citizens, and pregnant women in a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) affected community in Southville I, Barangay Niugan, Cabuyao City in Laguna on Sept. 27.

PRC Laguna Chapter Administrator Frank Gray Sorromero said that with the help of Red Cross 143 - Cabuyao City Branch, 500 children, senior citizens, and pregnant women were given food through the Hot Meals on Wheels.

“Ang programang ito ay naglalayong ibsan kahit papaano ang pasakit na dulot pa rin ng pandemya (This program aims to alleviate some of the pain still caused by the pandemic),” he added.

Meanwhile, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon reiterated that the PRC has consistently been at the forefront of rescue, relief, and recovery efforts when these natural and man-made events occur.

“Together with the government, let us continue this fight against the invisible virus and defeat COVID-19,” Gordon said.

To date, there are 23 “Hot Meals on Wheels” food trucks that are equipped with kitchens that can prepare 100 meals per hour or 800 meals during an eight-hour operation.
