The Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP) on Monday, Sept. 27, urged the adults to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) for the protection of the children.

"Ikutan po natin ng mga matatanda na may bakuna na ang mga batang hindi pa po maaaring mabakunahan. Kahit papaano po mayroon indirect protection na makukuha (Let's surround the children who can't be vaccinated yet with vaccinated adults. Somehow, there will be an indirect protection)," said PIDSP president Mary Ann Bunyi in an interview with DZMM Teleradyo.

Bunyi also advised the adults who go outside to always observe the minimum health protocols such as wearing of masks and face shields and to avoid crowded places.

"Pagdating naman sa bahay, ang mask ay nailagay sa tamang lalagyan at malinis na sila bago makisalamuha sa pamilya (When they got home, the mask should be put in the right place and they are clean before interacting with their family members)," she added.

Bunyi also said clinical trial for children in the country has not yet started.

"Sa ngayon po dito sa Pilipinas, wala pa pong clinical trial na nangyayari tungkol doon sa pagbabakuna sa mga bata, pero may darating (Right now here in the Philippines, there is no clinical trial yet going on the vaccinating children, but something is coming)," she said.

Meanwhile, parents are urged to still get their children vaccinated against flu as it will reduce the risk of another possible illness.

"Bago pa tayo magka covid nirerekomenda na ang vaccine. Kung mababakunahan po natin ng flu, bawas sa mga sakit na nakikita natin sa mga bata taon taon (Before COVID, the vaccine is already recommended. If we can get the flu vaccine, will reduce the diseases we see in children every year)," Bunyi said.
