Raffy Tulfo won't run as VP in 2022: 'I've utmost respect for Duterte'

Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo said on Monday, September 27, he would not seek the vice presidency in the 2022 elections.

Tulfo warned of a misinformation campaign alleging that he’s running for vice president next year against President Duterte.

The Chief Executive has formally accepted his nomination by the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi to run for vice president. He already signed the certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) for his 2022 vice presidential bid.

In a statement on his “Wanted sa Radyo” program, Tulfo admitted that he was offered by some politicians, whom he did not name, to be their vice presidential runningmate, but he declined.

“Merong naghikayat sa akin na maging ka-tandem nila sa 2022 elections at tinanggihan ko (Some people asked me to be their tandem for the 2022 elections and I turned it down. I said no. Why? Mataas ang respeto ko kay PRRD, kay Pangulong Duterte (I have utmost respect for President Duterte),” he said.

“Wala po akong intensiyon na banggain siya sa darating na halalan (I have no intention to fight him in the upcoming elections),” he added.

The broadcaster admitted that he mentioned 16 million voters and 42 million, but clarified that the latter is not his subscribers, but of ABS-CBN Entertainment that could possibly clash with the 16 million voters of Duterte if the issue of the ABS-CBN franchise is revived next year.

Tulfo surmised some unscrupulous invididuals could have circulated false reports against him on social media.

“Sana, huwag na tayong magpakalat ng fake news para sa ikabubuti ng ating bayan (I hope we will not spread fake news for the betterment of our country).”

He emphasized that he meant no disrespect to the 16 million voters of Duterte.
