Muntinlupa registers nearly 11,000 minors for vaccination vs COVID-19

The Muntinlupa City government’s vaccination program has already registered nearly 11,000 minors with aged 12 to 17.

Based on data from the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac), as of Sept. 27, a total of 10,760 12 to 17-year-olds have signed up. The city government started registering minors for vaccination last Sept. 14.

The total is equivalent to 19 percent of the total population of 55,391 for 12 to 17 years old in Muntinlupa based on th e2020 Census of Population and Housing data from Muntinlupa’s City Planning and Development Office. The city government started registering minors for vaccination last Sept. 14.

By barangay, out of the 10,760, Putatan recorded the highest number of registrants with 1,924, followed by Tunasan, 1,444; Poblacion, 1,433; Alabang, 1,170; Cupang, 914; Sucat, 669; Bayanan, 587; Ayala Alabang, 518; and Buli, 182. Non-residents who registered totaled 1,919.

Last Sept. 23, vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said he believes the government is ready to vaccinate children.

“We need to start by October because if we will vaccinate children, which is, more or less, our primary target is 14 to 20 million, we have to finish 20 million doses for our children’s sector within two to three period of inoculation,” he said.

He added, “I believe we are ready because the FDA had already given EUA for two vaccines, Moderna and Pfizer, and maybe we will be accelerating Sinovac for three years old and above.”

The FDA approved the amended EUA for Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine last May 28 to include 12 years old and above.

It also approved the use of the Moderna vaccine for 12 years and above last Sept. 2 after Zuellig Pharma Corp. requested the agency to amend the original EUA dated Aug. 12.

Galvez said the inoculation of children coincides with the government’s focus to resume face to face classes.

“We can only protect the children by having them vaccinated because we saw that they are very vulnerable too,” he said, adding that parents do not feel protected if their children are not protected.

He said what they want is to plan ahead, saying other countries are already vaccinating children like Israel, United Kingdom, Canada, and the US.

“If we delay , many children will die,” said Galvez.
