5.7-magnitude quake jolts Occidental Mindoro, is felt as far as Metro Manila -- Phivolcs

An earthquake measuring 5.7-magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Occidental Mindoro early Monday morning, Sept. 27, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

It traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 16 kilometers (km) northeast of Looc, Occidental Mindoro at around 1:12 a.m.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was "moderately strong" at Intensity IV in Looc, Abra De Ilog, Lubang, Sablayan and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; Calatagan, Lian, Lipa City, Malvar, Mataas na Kahoy, Balayan, Taal, Tuy, Bauan, Mabini, and Nasugbu, Batangas; Pola, Calapan City, Baco, Naujan and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Malolos City and Obando, Bulacan; Cavite City, General Trias City, Naic, Amadeo, Bacoor City, Dasmariñas City, Tagaytay City and Tanza, Cavite; Biñan City and Cabuyao City, Laguna; Las

Piñas City; Malabon City; Mandaluyong City; City of Manila; Marikina City; Muntinlupa City; Parañaque City; San Juan City; Taguig City; Pateros, Metro Manila; and San Mateo and Taytay, Rizal.

Meanwhile, it was "weak" at Intensity III in Santo Tomas City and Tingloy, Batangas; Makati City; Pasay City; Pasig City; Quezon City; Valenzuela City; Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro; Antipolo City, Rizal; Socorro, Oriental Mindoro; and Floridablanca, Pampanga.

It was "slightly felt" at Intensity II in Los Baños, Laguna; and Palayan City and Gapan City, Nueva Ecija, while it was "scarcely perceptible" at Intensity I in Arayat, Pampanga.

Phivolcs' instrumental activities also recorded the earthquake at Intensity V in Tagaytay City; Intensity IV in Batangas City and Calatagan, Batangas; Malolos City, Marilao and Plaridel, Bulacan; Carmona, Cavite; Malabon City; Muntinlupa City; and Calapan City and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; and Intensity III in Pandi, Bulacan; Las Piñas City; Marikina City; Pasig City; San Juan City; Guagua, Pampanga; Dolores, Quezon; and Olongapo City, Zambales.

It was also detected at Intensity II in Baler, Aurora; Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan; Makati City; and Mandaluyong City; and Intensity I in Cabanatuan City and Palayan City, Nueva Ecija; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Lopez, Lucban, and Guinayangan, Quezon; and San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.

Moreover, Phivolcs said aftershocks are likely to occur due to this earthquake.
