San Juan, Iloilo, Negros extend unbeaten streak in PCAP online tourney

San Juan, Iloilo and Negros extended their respective unbeaten streaks to remain at the helm in the third conference of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament over the weekend.

The San Juan Predators squeaked past the Pasig City King Pirates, 11-10, and then crushed the Isabela Knight Raiders, 17.5-3.5, for a seventh straight win in the Northern Division, while the Iloilo Kisela Knights and the Negros Kingsmen improved to 6-0 marks in the Southern Division.

The Kisela Knights banked on a 16-5 triumph over the Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors, while the Kingsmen bested the Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates, 14-7, and the Toledo City Trojans, 11.5-9.5.

San Juan banked on its slim 4-3 blitz win over Pasig after tying the rapid at 7-all.

Woman International Master Jan Jodilyn Fronda and International Ricardo De Guzman providing victories over Sherily Cua and Rudy Ibañez on Boards 3 and 4. Grandmaster Oliver Barbosa, IM Rolando Nolte, FIDE Master Narquinden Reyes and Narciso Gumila, for their parts, drew their matches.

Against Isabela, San Juan dominated in blitz, 6.5-0.5, and rapid, 11-3.

In other matches, the Laguna Heroes trail behind San Juan with a 6-1 mark after downing the Cagayan Kings, 15.5-5.5, and the Cavite Spartans, 11.5-9.5.

Pasig and Manila are at 5-2, Isabela at 4-3, and Rizal and Caloocan at 3-4 and 2-5. Cavite, Olongapo and Cagayan share identical 1-6 records.

In the Southern Division, Lapu-Lapu trail behind Iloilo and Negros at 5-2, while Toledo and Surigao are tied at 4-3.

Completing the lineup are Camarines (4-2), Cordova (2-4), Palawan (2-3), Iriga (1-5), Cebu (0-6) and Mindoro (0-6).
