Robredo: No one can accuse me of using OVP resources for politics

Vice President Leni Robredo doesn't fear calling out the government for allegations of corruption because she herself has never used funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for purposes aside from that of her work.

Robredo made the statement as Filipinos await her decision on whether or not she will run for president in the May 2022 elections, with just days to go before the start of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs).

In an interview with Radyo Katipunan on Friday, Sept. 24, the Vice President was asked to comment on some sector's claims that she has been politicizing issues.

She explained that she was confident about her standing in govenrment because people know that the accusations were not true.

"Kaya malakas yung loob ko kasi wala ni isa man-- Dito sa opisina namin, wala ni isa man na ma-a-accuse ako na gumamit ako ng resources ng office o tao ng office para sa politika (I'm confident because no one in our office can accuse me of using our resources or people for politics)," she said.

Last month, Malacañang accused Vice President Robredo of politicking and that she has developed a "weekly media habit" of nitpicking the executive branch's coronavirus disease (COVID-19) response.

This came after Robredo urged the government to have an "all-hands-on-deck" approach to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country and called for a "timeout" on politicking.

President Duterte and Vice President Robredo had several chances of working together. The first time was when Duterte named her as the head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) in 2016. Robredo, however, resigned from her post after she was barred from attending Cabinet meetings.

In November 2019, the Vice President was appointed as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), but her stint only lasted for 18 days after the President fired her due to mistrust and alleged incompetence to handle the job.

Despite this, Vice President Robredo has repeatedly expressed her willingness to work with the administration; she even said she was open to appear with President Duterte in an infomercial to address vaccine hesitancy.
