DPWH finishes twin roads for agri goods delivery in Zamboanga del Norte

Agricultural goods are expected to reach bigger market hubs in the municipality of Labason, Zamboanga del Norte with the completion of two road projects in the area.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Saturday, Sept. 29, that it has paved a total of 1.5 kilometers of roads in Labason.

According to DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia, the two road projects were accomplished along Lopoc-Dansalan Road and Barangay Ubay.

“Road networks that will help improve the mobilization of agricultural products from farms to bigger market hubs are important infrastructure in rural areas that will further increase socio-economic activities,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.

“These projects will help reduce travel time and road maintenance cost, while providing more livelihood opportunities to the locals,” he added.

The twin road projects were constructed under a P25-million fund.

The construction covered earthworks, construction of portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP), installation of pavement markings, and provision of drainage and grouted riprap.

The infrastructure secretary further said that with the completed road projects, "domestic tourism is also expected to bolster as it will encourage travelers and outdoor activities enthusiasts."
