Issuance of voter's certification suspended from Sept 27 to 30-Comelec

The issuance of voter's certification in all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) will be suspended from Sept. 27 to 30.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said this is in order to devote the last week of voter registration solely for registration purposes.

"The Commission anticipates an influx of last-minute registrants as we get closer to the deadline. And given the limited number of field personnel, we must endeavor to make the full use of our limited manpower and resources in catering to applicants for voter registration," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement on Thursday, Sept. 23.

The poll body said the suspension of the issuance of voter's certification will be effective in all OEOs wherever they may be housed, which includes barangay and mall registration sites where the Comelec field personnel have temporarily set up their satellite offices.

The Comelec, meantime, said that the issuance of voter's certification in the main office in Intramuros will not be affected.

"Registered voters from any locality in the Philippines may secure a voter's certification at the Comelec's National Central File Division (NCFD) satellite office, located at the back of Chowking in FEMII Building, Extension Cabildo Street cor.. Soriano Avenue,Intramuros, Manila," it said.

To apply for a voter's certification, the poll body said, the applicant must present one valid ID and submit a photocopy of the same ID, and pay the P75.00 fee.

The Comelec said applicants who are unable to apply for the certification personally may do so through an authorized representative, who must bear an authorization letter for that purpose.

It added that the representative must also present a valid ID and a photocopy of the same ID.

The Comelec said the voter's certification is free of charge for senior citizens, persons with disability (PWDS), members of the Indigenous Peoples (IPS) and Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs), and solo parents.
