In an effort to eradicate all forms of cheating, including those that are carried out online, the Department of Education (DepEd) is strengthening the promotion of academic honesty among its stakeholders.
DepEd made this move after it has monitored that answers to self-learning modules (SLMs) are uploaded on Facebook pages - particularly in “Online Kopyahan.”

In a memorandum issued by Curriculum and Instruction Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio dated Sept. 20, highly encouraged DepEd’s Regional Offices (ROs) to take “immediate actions” to protect academic integrity and ensure the veracity of the learners’ assessment results amidst reports on online cheating.
In order to promote academic honesty, DepEd ROs were directed to conduct orientation with parents and raise awareness on the existing FB pages that “promote cheating, encourage their support against academic dishonesty, and explain the repercussions of cheating to the learning and values of children.”
ROs were also directed to ensure “proactive transparency of the assessment and grading system to parents and learners in order to promote understanding of the purpose of formative assessments” in the Self-Learning Modules (SLMs).
DepEd said that developing Self-Learning Activities (SLAs) or the Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) that “require learners to analyze information, craft creative presentations, or explain their thinking” to further promote academic honesty.

This, DepEd said, shall be validated by the Schools Division SDO or School Learning Resource Team.
Regional offices were also urged to create TV and radio programs that promote honesty and integrity to be aired and specific schedules
“There should be motivational programs for learners as well as parents/guardians,” San Antonio said in the memo. “These programs may be aired using their own mother tongue,” he added.
DepEd said that ROs may also Include academic integrity in the In-Service Training (INSET) or Capacity Building Programs that may “serve as a venue for teachers to identify teaching actions and attitude that pushed the students to cheat.”
