After Idaho Open victory, Tabuena set to compete in Korn Ferry qualifiers

After winning his first title on US soil by claiming the Idaho Open championship Sunday (Monday in Manila), Filipino golfer Miguel Tabuena is scheduled to see action in the first stage of the three-part Korn Ferry qualifying tournament on Sept. 28 in Nevada.

Tabuena, a two-time champion in the Asian Tour, captured the title in Idaho following a three-day aggregate score of 196 for 14-under in the 54-hole event, winning by four strokes against Brad Marek at the par-70 Quail Hollow Golf Club in Boise, Idaho.

Participants who will advance to the final stage of the qualifiers are assured of a conditional status in the Korn Ferry Tour next year.

“Next up for me is the Korn Ferry Q-School in Dayron,” said the 26-year-old Tabuena, a Philippine Open champion, in a post made by the Philippine Golf Tour (PGT) on its Instagram account.

The goal of Tabuena, who competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, is to make it to the PGA Tour – via the Q-School. Like Yuka Saso and Bianca Pagdanganan – both competing in the LPGA Tour – Tabuena is also backed by ICTSI.

“My immediate target would have to be gaining status on the Korn Ferry Tour. I want to be able to play week-in and week-out. In the long run (but hopefully not too long), of course, the dream is to be playing on the PGA Tour,” he said.
