Muntinlupa LGU warns of suspension of scholarship for students caught violating curfew

A total of 70 students who are scholars of the Muntinlupa City government will be sanctioned for violating curfew imposed amid the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

On Wednesday, the Muntinlupa Scholarship Division of the Muntinlupa City government announced that 64 scholars committed their first offense under the curfew ordinance.

Of the total, seven are in elementary school, 44 in junior high school, four in senior high school, and nine in college.

In addition, six students were found to have violated the curfew for the second time. One student is in elementary school, three in junior high school, and two in college.

“Based on the reports endorsed by the PNP-Muntinlupa and the barangays to Muntinlupa Scholarship Division, here are the numbers of scholars tagged as curfew violators. We would like to remind our scholars to be responsible and follow the curfew and other related ordinances,” said the Muntinlupa Scholarship Division.

Under the city ordinance, adult violators of the curfew will be fined P300 for the first offense, P500 for the second and P1,000 for the third and subsequent offenses.

For minor violators, to which the 70 scholars belong, a stern warning will be given for the first offense, withdrawal of scholarship grants from the city government and for non-grantee, a fine of P300 for the second offense, and a fine of P500 for the third and subsequent offenses. The fines will be charged against their parents or guardians.

However, the Muntinlupa Scholarship Division decided to just suspend and not completely withdraw the scholarship of the violators.

For those who violated the curfew for the second time, their scholarship grant will be suspended for one year and they will be asked to sign an undertaking that they will not commit another offense.

Muntinlupa and the rest of Metro Manila have imposed a curfew of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. under the new general community quarantine (GCQ) Alert Level 4.

As of Sept. 21, Muntinlupa has 2,145 active COVID-19 cases out of 25,033 confirmed cases, 22,377 recoveries and 511 deaths.
