Rain showers, thunderstorms prevail over 3 regions due to LPA, ITCZ -- PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) embedded along the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may still affect parts of the country within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 21.

The LPA was estimated at 175 kilometers west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan at around 3 p.m.

PAGASA weather specialist Joey Figuracion said the LPA is not expected to intensify into a tropical depression but may bring rains over some parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

The LPA, along with the ITCZ, may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions but with possible isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA advised the public to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides especially during the occurrence of severe thunderstorms that are often associated with short-lived heavy rains.

Weather specialist Ariel Rojas said PAGASA does not expect the formation of a tropical cyclone inside the Philippine area of responsibility in the next two to three days.

The State weather bureau has also not issued any gale warning on Tuesday afternoon as coastal water conditions remain slight to moderate.

Fisherfolk and those using small sea boats are safe to sail, it added.
