DepEd anticipates more enrollees before SY 2021-2022 enrollment period ends

While it has already surpassed the enrollment figures last year, the Department of Education (DepEd) expressed optimism that more learners will enroll before the enrollment period for School Year (SY) officially ends by the end of this month.

“We expect na tataas pa itong numerong ito by September 30. By that time tapos na iyong deadline sa enrollment at tataas pa ang mga numero (We expect this number to increase by September 30. By that time your enrollment deadline is over and the numbers will increase),” Education Secretary Leonor Briones in a televised briefing on Sept. 20.

DepEd has announced that schools nationwide will still accept enrollees until Sept. 30, 2021.

Based on DepEd Order No. 30, s. 2021, DepEd has instructed public schools and private schools, state universities, and colleges following the DepEd schedule, to admit learners until the end of the month.

As of Sept. 18, DepEd recorded 28,219,263 enrollees or 107.6 percent from last year for this school year.

A total of 21, 6013, 004 learners enrolled in public schools and 1,997, 089 in private schools.

DepEd also noted that Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, MIMAROPA (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), and CAR (Cordillera Administrative Region) already exceeded their enrollment rate last year --- indicating that “some learners who opted not to enroll in the previous year are returning this time.” Briones pointed out that she still expects more learners to participate in the upcoming school year despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said DepEd is “happy with the turnout of enrollment this year” --- noting that we have surpassed last year's enrollment levels, overall and in nearly all regions as of Sept. 18.

As of Sept. 20, Malaluan said that DepEd has discontinued releasing of the enrollment quick-count as “we shift to the Beginning of School Year updating of student profiles.” Malaluan added that the updated student profiles will be the basis for the official enrollment for SY 2021-2022 which we will release by the end of October.

The updated students profiles, Malaluan said, will provide information on migration of learners from public to private or vice versa, those that skipped last school year and returned this school year, and other important indicators.
