K-pop group ASTRO's Jinjin in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19

K-pop boy band ASTRO member Jinjin tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the latest Korean celebrity to get infected with the virus.

“On Sept. 16, Jinjin of ASTRO, an artist belonging to our agency, was in poor physical condition and immediately underwent COVID-19 PCR test just in case and the test result was negative,” said Fantagio, ASTRO’s agency, on Sept. 19.

It added that “however, since yesterday (Sept. 18), he felt abnormal symptoms again so he underwent another COVID-19 PCR test and the test result was confirmed to be positive today (Sept. 19).”

The agency said Jinjin is currently in self-isolation according to the guidelines of quarantine authorities and is waiting for guidance on further necessary measures.

ASTRO members Moon Bin and Sanha, and staff members who crossed paths with Jinjin are waiting for the results of their PCR tests.

“All scheduled activities will be immediately suspended and voluntary self-quarantine will be performed,” the agency said.

As of Sept. 19, South Korea recorded 1,910 new COVID-19 cases to bring the total confirmed cases to 285,931, or an incidence rate of 552 per 100,000 population.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, as of Sept. 15, South Korea has recorded 3,460 people infected with COVID-19 variants consisting of 3,260 local infections and 200 imported cases.

Of the total, 3,444 cases are Delta variants, or 99.5 percent, consisting of 3,250 local cases and 194 imported, according to Yonhap News.

The 194 imported Delta variant cases were from travelers from countries such as the Philippines, Uzbekistan, United States, Turkey, Russia and Indonesia.
