ICYDK: There is a Filipino actor in Netflix series 'Squid Game'

To many K-drama and -movies fans, seeing Chris Chan on the screen is not new

What seems to be a harmless children’s game to win money takes a different turn in the latest Netflix show, “Squid Game.” Currently on the streaming platform’s trending chart, the series presents 456 players battling it out and risking their lives as they try to earn a whopping 45.6 billion won.

One of the factors that cemented the show’s success is its stellar cast featuring Park Hae Soo (“Quantum Physics”), Heo Sung Tae (“Reply 1994”), and Wi Ha Jun (“Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum”), among others. And believe it or not, the cast also features a Filipino.

Christian Lagahit, a Filipino English teacher in South Korea, is also part of the show’s ensemble. Working under the screen name Chris Chan, he portrays the role of Player 276 in the show. In his Instagram account, the Filipino extra shares behind-the-scenes snaps with the show’s cast, and their filming set while wearing the green tracksuit costume of his character.

To many K-drama fans and -film buffs, it is definitely not the first time they saw Chris on the screen. The 35-year-old has appeared in movies “Space Sweeper” and “The Negotiation,” as well as in a number of series including “Crash Landing On You,” “The King: Eternal Monarch,” “Itaewon Class,” “Her Private Life,” and “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty.”
