Eleazar orders creation of SITG to look into killing of former Abra mayoral bet

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now conducting a thorough investigation into the assassination of a former mayoralty candidate who was gunned down inside her house in Abra.

Amor Trina Dait, a resident doctor of La Paz District Hospital, died after gunmen barged into her house in Barangay Poblacion in Pilar on Saturday night and shot her.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said all angles would be looked into to determine the perpetrators of the crime as well as their motive.

"I have already the creation of a Special Investigation Task Group to expedite the conduct of the investigation," said Eleazar.

"The local police are directed to immediately coordinate with the victim’s family to check if Dait received life threats prior to the crime. It must also be determined if there are individuals who could possibly have personal grudge against her," he added.

Dait ran for mayor in Pilar but lost during the 2019 local elections and the PNP is now also looking into this as a possible motive.

As early as last month, Eleazar ordered all police commanders to start the early security preparations for the presidential and local elections in May 2022.

“This incident only encouraged us to be more aggressive in our campaign against private armed groups and loose firearms to ensure the peace, honest and orderly conduct of the elections in the next year,” he said.
