The new Delta variant cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) as of Aug. 27 were presented by Dr. Alethea de Guzman, director of the Department of Health (DOH) Epidemiology Bureau, during the online press briefing with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Thursday.

In previous reports, the DOH used the label “Total Delta Variant Cases” in presenting the data table for the NCR but changed it to “Variant of Concern Presence.”

De Guzman identified the “Variant of Concern Presence” tally as local Delta variant cases during the Go Negosyo online briefing last Aug. 23. The Delta variant is a strain of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Based on De Guzman’s latest report, Pateros has 448 active COVID-19 cases as of Sept. 1 with a moving two-week growth rate (TWGR) of COVID-19 cases of 105.23 percent from Aug. 5 to 18, and Aug. 19 to Sept. 1, and moving average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 76.86, both the highest in the NCR. Based on the data, the DOH classified Pateros as a high risk.

In its Sept. 2 report for NCR, OCTA Research listed Pateros as the No. 1 LGU in terms of ADAR, or the number of new daily cases per 100,000 from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1.

Pateros has an ADAR of 86.71, the highest in the NCR. Its new cases, or the average number of new daily cases from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, are 60, an increase of 30 percent from the previous 46.

OCTA Research’s report added that Pateros has a reproduction number of 1.56 as of Sept.1, higher than the NCR’s “critical cutoff of 1.4.”

Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III earlier issued an executive order outlining the guidelines in the handling of patients confirmed to have the Delta variant and their close contacts.

He said persons found to be positive for the Delta variant are required to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine or isolation in an isolation facility by the government.

Based on the Pateros municipal government’s own data as of Aug. 30, there were 512 active COVID-19 cases in the municipality out of 5,985 confirmed cases, 5,398 recoveries and 75 deaths.
