An image of the Sto. Niño de Cebu was enshrined in a parish in Vatican City on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

In a Facebook post, the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu said the image was enthroned at the Sta. Ana Parish by Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, who is currently in Rome.

"The Holy Child was welcomed by the Augustinian community of the Sta. Ana Parish, the administrators of the church, and other Filipino Augustinian friars assigned in Rome," read the post.

CBCP News on Wednesday also shared a screenshot of Palma with Pope Francis at the Vatican.

"Pope Francis greets Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu during his weekly general audience in Paul VI Hall at the Vatican Sept. 1," read the post.

"Archbishop Palma dropped by Rome before going to Budapest, Hungary for the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) slated on Sept. 5 to 12," it added.

The IEC was originally set for September 2020 but was postponed due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The religious gathering first took place in France in 1881 with the goal of increasing devotion to the Eucharist.

It has continued to be held once every four years in a different city across the globe with the last congress held in Cebu in 2016.
