14.7M learners enrolled for SY 2021-2022 so far --- DepEd

Students who enrolled for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 have breached the 14 million mark based on the latest enrollment data released by the Department of Education (DepEd).

As of Thursday, Sept. 2, enrollment in formal basic education has reached 14, 787, 763 while the number of learners enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) is now 130, 419.

Based on the enrollment figures released by DepEd, there are 10, 230, 436 enrollees in public and private schools including State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)/Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education since it started the regular enrollment on Aug. 16.

Of this number, data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count showed that there are 9, 640, 112 learners enrolled in public schools; 578, 219 students in private schools; and 12, 105 in SUCs/LUCs.

The current enrollment data, DepEd said, included the 4, 557, 327 Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners who participated in the Early Registration conducted in March until May 2021.

To date, DepEd data showed that Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees with 2, 337, 632 followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1, 463, 615 and Region III with 1, 378, 241.

The current enrollment, DepEd said, accounts for 56.4 percent of the enrollment in SY 2020-2021 at 26. 2 million.

DepEd said that the enrollment period will last until the first day of classes on Sept. 13.

Currently, an enhanced enrollment process for SY 2021-2022 is in place where parents and guardians can enroll their children remotely.

To ensure the safety of everyone amidst the public health situation, DepEd strongly urged parents and guardians to use remote means of enrollment which include sending text messages, calls, sending emails and online messages using official social media platforms of schools.

To accommodate those without access to remote means, DepEd said that limited physical submission of enrollment forms may be allowed in areas with low risk classification as long as the minimum public health standards, such as social distancing and other protocols, are observed.

Due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, DepEd will implement a blended/distance learning set-up this incoming school year.

Without face-to-face classes, students will learn their lessons using multiple learning delivery modalities such as modular (printed and offline); online learning; television and radio-based instruction; and/or a combination of two or more modalities under “blended learning.”
