Pinoy US Open billiards champ Carlo Biado lauded by Palace

Malacañang is beaming with pride after Filipino billiards champ Carlo Biado ruled the 2021 US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City, Sunday, September 19 (Manila time).

In a statement, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said that Biado brought pride and honor to the country by winning the said tournament in New Jersey.

"Carlo is indeed a world-class billiards champion. President Duterte personally conferred Carlo a presidential citation for winning a gold medal in the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in 2017," he said.

The 37-year-old Nueva Ecija native has now added to his collection the US Open, an event considered as one of the most important prizes in pool history.

He became the second Filipino to win the US Open, joining Efren “Bata” Reyes who ruled the 1994 edition.

Another Filipino, Alex Pagulayan, represented Canada when he reigned supreme in 2005.
