Inclement weather forces Portland Classic to suspend play

Filipino golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina still have one round to improve their respective finish as heavy rain forced the organizers to reduce the Cambia Portland Classic to 54 holes set Sunday (Monday in Manila) at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Oregon.

It started to rain late Friday and the forecast indicated that it will continue until Saturday evening and into Sunday.

Tournament officials hope the competition can wrap up on Sunday, although play may extend into Monday if necessary.

Pagdanganan, a Tokyo Olympics veteran, shot a two-under par 70 in the second round Friday, which improved her position to joint 20th place, while Ardina is tied for 63rd to 77th spots.

A double gold medalist in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, and a gold medal winner in the Asian Games, Pagdanganan has a two-day aggregate score of 144. She is currently in a three-way tie for 20th to 22nd spots with Ashleigh Buhai of South Africa (70-74) and Mi Jung Hur of South Korea (69-75).

Pagdanganan shot a 74 in the first round.

Currently leading the event is world No. 2 Jin Young Ko of Korea who had a 67 following her first round 69 for 136. She enjoys a shot lead on Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland who is at 137 after a 68 and 69.

At third is Carlota Ciganda of Spain at 139, followed by Americans Alana Uriell and Andrea Lee, Koreans Jeongeun Lee, Jenny Shin and Jeongeun Lee6, Australia’s Su Oh and Thailand’s Pajaree Anannarukarn at fourth to 10th places at 140.

Ardina, on the other hand, has146 in the $1.4 million event.
