Five gift-worthy houseplants for the plant parent in your life

Plants bring joy and positive energy to people and spaces, which makes them a perfect gift for plant lovers and growers of different levels. 

So if you’re thinking of houseplant as a present, but unsure what specific variety to get, the following plants may be the ones that you are looking for. 

Ficus Audrey (Ficus benghalensis)

Also referred to as the Bengal fig or banyan tree, ficus Audrey is the national tree in its native home of India. It symbolizes longevity and is valued by the locals for its medicinal properties. 

Banyan trees are considered one of the world’s largest trees by the area of canopy coverage in their natural habitat. As indoor plants, this can be a good alternative to the more popular fig varieties.  

Swiss cheese plant (Monstera deliciosa)

This aesthetically pleasing plant is recognized for its unique holey leaves. This has been a crowd favorite in recent years, and can be an exciting present for newbie gardeners. 

Apart from its special features, this monstera variety will only require minimum energy and resources since it is fast-growing. Plus, It can add a nice, refreshing touch to any room.

Its aerial roots climb up to the trunks of bigger trees when growing in the wild. As houseplants, attaching a strong post to their pots can allow them to clamber up freely and healthily. 

Mini monstera (Rhaphidophora tetrasperma)

Mini monstera, or philodendron ginny or piccolo, is an aroid native to Southern Thailand and Malaysia. The leaves of this plant are similar to that of monstera deliciosa’s leaves, which can warm someone’s heart with its adorable size.

Maggie plant (Homalomena rubescens)

There’s nothing more natural than using plants to purify the air. Give a gift of healthy air to your loved ones through a maggie plant, which genus is even recognized in the Nasa Clean Air Study for its purification abilities. 

Also called the queen of hearts, this tropical plant has heart-shaped foliage and long red stems. It can thrive in bright indirect light as long as it is coupled with moderate watering and medium to high humidity. 

Heartleaf philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum)

The receiver of the gift will surely feel the love from the leaves of this plant variety. This philodendron can be placed on a shelf or rack where growers can enjoy its vines crawling down beautifully.

The heartleaf philodendron or philodendron Brasil is tolerant of bright, indirect light. Growers can trim it if it gets leggy, while its cuttings can be easily propagated in water. When roots emerge, they can sow the cuttings in a pot and share them with friends. 

Compared to other gifts, plants have no expiry date and can be gifted to anyone no matter the occasion. Not only do they beautifully adorn spaces, but they can also help purify the air.
