MVP Group's Edward S. Go, 83

Edward S. Go, a director in several companies under the MVP Group, passed away at the age of 83.

Go was one of Metro Pacific Investments Corp.’s independent directors.

He also held several positions in other companies; chairman of the Board at Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. and at ASA Philippines Foundation; independent director at PLDT Communications, Energy Ventures Inc., and Filipino Fund Inc.

Moreover, he was a board member at BTF Holdings Inc., Mediaquest Holdings Inc., TV5 Network Inc., Cignal TV Inc., BusinessWorld Publishing Corp., PhilSTAR Daily Inc., AB Capital Investment Corp., Viscal Investment Corp., UnionGalvasteel Corp., and Trans-Asia Petroleum Corp.

Before being tapped by the MPIC Group, he worked with Citibank N.A. as executive trainee, then served the Philippine Bank of Communications as president in 1974, and eventually became China Bank’s chief executive officer in 1985.

Go earned his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), where he was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2014, four years of which he was chairman of the board.

“With deep sadness, we inform the University community of the passing away of Edward S. Go,” said his alma mater adding that, “He was a true blue Atenean, graduating as the class valedictorian in grade school (1953), high school (1957), and college (1961) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Science, magna cum laude.”

ADMU noted that, “Known for his quiet brilliance and integrity, Eddie had a long and illustrious career in banking and finance, and sat on the board of several top corporations. He was also committed to helping alleviate poverty in the country.

“Aside from his generous support for the university’s feeding and housing programs for the poor, Eddie was the Chairman of ASA Philippines, one of the biggest microfinance groups in the country today, since its founding in 2004.”

The 2022 Lux in Domino Award for Go, announced earlier, will be conferred posthumously.
