LPA, ITCZ trigger rains in most parts of PH

The low pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over several parts of the country, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Sept. 17.

The LPA was estimated at 90 kilometers east-southeast of Romblon, Romblon at around 3 a.m.

In the next 24 hours, the LPA and ITCZ may bring scattered rain showers over Metro Manila, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, Ifugao, La Union, Pangasinan, Camarines Norte, Central and Southern Luzon, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, and Soccsksargen.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides triggered by moderate to at times heavy rains.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression but may continue to bring rains while traversing southern Luzon.

Aurelio said the weather disturbance will likely leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

However, there remains a possibility of isolated rain showers in these areas due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA said severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with short-lived heavy rains, may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

It has not issued a gale warning on Friday as coastal water conditions remain slight to moderate.

Fisherfolk and those using small sea boats are safe to sail, PAGASA said.
