Instant declaration of granular lockdown in areas with COVID surge -- Olivarez

Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, also the chairman of the Metro Manila Council, said there will be an instant declaration of granular lockdown in some parts of Metro Manila with high COVID-19 cases to curb the spread of the disease.

Olivarez, in a Teleradyo interview, said the implementation of instant granular lockdown will be made to stop National Capital Region (NCR) residents from going to their relatives, friends, or acquaintances living outside the region to avoid a lockdown declaration.

He said the NCR shifted to a new Alert level system with granular lockdowns to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and allow more businesses to resume their operations.

Under the new scheme, Olivarez said granular lockdown will take effect immediately in areas, even streets with just two cases of COVID-19.

Olivarez said the "instant" implementation of granular lockdown covering only a specific area of a city in Metro Manila, will restrict residents from moving to other areas that may cause COVID-19 transmission.

In Paranaque City, the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), headed by Atty. Melanie Soriano-Malaya, inspected business establishments in the city to ensure their compliance with the guidelines of the new alert level system.

The mayor said outdoor dining is allowed at 30 percent capacity, while indoor dining is limited to small groups of fully immunized people.

Olivarez also said religious gatherings and personal care services are allowed up to 30 percent of the capacity of the venue.
