Senior citizen nuns receive COVID-19 jabs from PH Red Cross

Recognizing the urgent need to protect high-risk individuals against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) vaccinated two dozens of senior citizen nuns in Parañaque City.

PRC staff and volunteers from Rizal Chapter on Sept. 15 drove to Daughters of Charity Province of St Louise de Marillac Asia in Parañaque City to vaccinate 24 nuns belonging to the A2 or senior category with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccines.

“We aimed to vaccinate senior citizen nuns ranging from 70-90 years old as these nuns were not able to get vaccinated in their LGU,” said PRC Rizal Chapter Administrator Ria Rivera.

“Now that we have successfully vaccinated the nuns from Daughters of Charity, we are also planning to target other convents that have not been catered by their LGU yet,” she added.

As of Sept. 15, the PRC has vaccinated 217,808 individuals in the 20 “Bakuna Centers” and 16 “Bakuna Buses” nationwide.

PRC said that a total of 173,882 were vaccinated in its vaccinate centers while 43,926 were vaccinated in its fleet of mobile vaccination buses.

Interested individuals may register for vaccination by calling 1158 or sending an email at [email protected].

As the country's premier humanitarian organization, the PRC continues to send out hope in this time of the pandemic.

“Anuman ang mga hamon na kinakaharap natin lalo ngayong pandemya, ang Red Cross ay laging andito upang magbigay ng pag-asa (Regardless of the challenges we face especially during the pandemic, the Red Cross is always here to provide hope),” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard said.

“Lagi kami andito upang maglingkod nang walang diskriminasyon (We are always here to serve without discrimination,),” he added.
