There are now more than 30 million Filipinos who have registered into the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said.
As of Sept. 9, the PSA reported that 30,043,249 Filipinos have already completed their Step 2 registration for the national identification (ID) program.
The Step 2 registration includes the capture of biometric information, such as fingerprint, iris scans, and front-facing photographs, at registration centers.
“The PSA is grateful to the public for their continued support and enthusiasm to register to PhilSys,” PSA Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa said in a statement Wednesday, Sept. 15.
“We are optimistic that registrations will continue to ramp up as we reach this 30 million milestone. Rest assured that the PSA continues to closely monitor registration operations as a commitment to prioritize public safety,” he added.
The state statistics agency estimated that close to 4 million registrations were missed primarily due to quarantine restrictions imposed by local government units (LGUs).
It noted that registration centers in areas with looser quarantine restrictions continue to operate and comply with the health protocols and guidance from their respective local authorities.
Registrants are required to strictly observe safety protocols such as physical distancing, wearing of face mask and face shield, it added.
Meanwhile, the PSA opened more slots for online appointment booking nationwide to further accommodate registrants.
As of date, 1.7 million national identification (ID) cards have been delivered nationwide, the agency earlier said.
