LPA, ITCZ may bring rain showers, thunderstorms over E. Visayas, Mindanao

A low pressure area (LPA) that is embedded within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) has formed east of Visayas on Wednesday, Sept. 15, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA was estimated at 375 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar at around 3 p.m.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the LPA and ITCZ may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Southern Leyte, and Mindanao.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides triggered by moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

However, there remains a possibility of isolated rain showers in these areas due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA said severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with short-lived heavy rains, may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

It has not issued a gale warning on Friday as coastal water conditions remain slight to moderate.

Fisherfolk and those using small sea boats are safe to sail, it added.
