Kapuso star Rayver Cruz has said he is ready to explore offbeat roles as he renewed his management contract with GMA Network.
Asked if he made requests with his new contract, Cruz said that there wasn't much of a request, but he would like to try being a villain in a story, and he enjoys bad boy and annoying types of roles.
"Someone that you would love and hate," said Cruz during a virtual interview held last Sept. 9.
Cruz added: “When it comes to giving me projects and choosing a role, I trust GMA, they know where to send me, they know me as an artist, so they are capable of assigning me promising roles that fit me. But if asked, I would like more recognition on my musical theater side."
"The Clash" host and "On The Job: The Missing 8" star said that he remained loyal to GMA despite offers from other networks.
“Even with other offers, I still choose to remain as a Kapuso considering to transfer to other networks is a distant thought, it's far way back in my mind. My Kapuso journey has been fulfilling and packed with joy, it makes my heart happy," he said.
Cruz said he also wanted his musical side to be explored. "I can sing, I want my musical side to be more recognized."
He also listed Heart Evangelista and Kyline Alcantara as some of the Kapuso stars he would love to work with.
“I’m close with Kyline Alcantara, she is very talented so, I think it would be nice to work with her, but she's too young. If I could pick someone my age, I think Heart Evangelista, I also watched her work recently," he said.
How about a Rayver and Kyline loveteam? Cruz said that if it could work, then he’ll push through with it. He describes himself as someone persevering and game on whatever role is thrown at him.
In a musical setup, Cruz said he would like to work with Julie Anne San Jose and Christian Bautista in the future.
Cruz complimented San Jose as a full package. "Someone who can act, sing, and dance."
It was also revealed that Cruz and San Jose shot a romantic-comedy film pre-pandemic, but the filming was halted for a while. But he said that there is a possibility of the film being released as it is already halfway finished.
Cruz also recalled shooting for the critically acclaimed Filipino movie "On The Job" The Missing 8."
He admitted he was very nervous working with his girlfriend Janine de Leon’s grandfather, Christopher de Leon, for the movie.
Cruz said he was stunned to work with De Leon, not as Janine’s grandfather but as a veteran and renowned actor in the Philippines.
He shared an episode that even before filming the scene with De Leon, he was fidgety and stumbling with his words.
Cruz said De Leon calmed him and reassured him that it was okay.
“He was very nice to me, it was a great experience to have a scene with someone I idolize," Cruz added.
Cruz is currently starring in the primetime drama "Nagbabagang Luha" aired every afternoon and is preparing to film as a host for the new season of "The Clash" with San Jose.
