Duterte considers COVID-19 vaccination for general population by October
The Philippine government is looking at the possibility of vaccinating the general adult population against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) once there is “a stable vaccine supply” by next month.
In his taped public address aired on Tuesday, Sept. 14, President Duterte said that the general adult population might receive their vaccines “as early as October".

“Kung meron nang madagdag at kung kaya na maabsorb ng gobyerno ‘yung lahat ng tao na mabakunahan (If there will be an additional supply and the government can absorb to vaccinate everyone), we will start with the—maski sino na general public,” he shared during his weekly "Talk to the People".
The Philippines currently vaccinates persons aged 18 years old and above. However, because of vaccine supply issues, some local government units (LGUs) are still waiting to start the inoculation for the A4 category or essential economic workers.
The President urged his Cabinet officials to prioritize the poor because they “can’t really afford to be traveling back and forth.”
“We always have to keep equity in mind na dapat unahin na natin ang walang-wala at mga mahirap (prioritize those who have nothing and the poor),” he said, adding that “ there are a lot of Filipinos waiting to be vaccinated” in far-flung areas outside Metro Manila.

The bulk of the country’s 56.5 million vaccines, which were either procured or donated, since February this year went to the National Capital Region (NCR) and nearby provinces.
But the President now said that “it would be nice of the government to go to their places (provinces).”
“Tutal alam naman natin 'yang (Anyway, we already know those) blighted areas,” he added.
To date, more than 15.8 million people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 even as new daily cases ballooned to an all-time high of over 26,000 cased this past week.

The government expects the delivery of some 20 million doses of vaccines from different brands in September and another 20 million each month from October to December.
Earlier, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said that the country needs to receive nine million doses of vaccines per week to achieve its goal of inoculating 100 million Filipinos by the end of this year.
