Taguig City chosen as pilot area for face-to-face classes

Taguig City has been chosen by the Department of Education (DepEd) as one of the pilot cities in Metro Manila for face-to-face classes once the government allows them.

Classes in the country opened on Sept. 13 with 24.6 million students, according to DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones.

According to the Taguig City government, DepEd expressed confidence in the city’s capability to hold face-to-face classes as its vaccination output reached one million jabs recently.

As of Sept. 11, Taguig has vaccinated 639,500 individuals with the first dose, or 73 percent of the city’s total population of 872,980 while fully vaccinated individuals reached 461,730, or 53 percent. Vaccine jabs administered in the city totaled 1.08 million.

The city government will use a combination of distance learning methods depending on the preference of students and parents.

Public school students are categorized into Hybrid Modular Distance Learning students and Online learning students.

About 95 percent of public school students in Taguig are under Hybrid Modular Distance Learning while the remaining five percent are Online, which is the pilot class in implementing the Dynamic E-Learning program.

The city government said it assembled a group of expert educators and module writers from different foreign and international schools to create modules for students under the Hybrid Modular Distance Learning.

Online learning students will be using the all-new Taguig Learning Management System (LMS) that will serve as the online portal for students' academic performance, evaluation results, and assignments.

Taguig is also training its educators to acquire new and advanced multimedia and content creation skills through the city's version 2 of the Taguig Online Resources and Community Hub (TORCH) Training for Teachers program with the aim of helping teachers make their lessons efficient and effective for students.

Taguig has distributed New Normal Education Packages for all students, which include a bag, school uniform, P.E. uniform, raincoat, modules, supplies, emergency bag, and emergency kit.

As of Sept. 11, Taguig has 1,569 active COVID-19 cases, 318 of which are new out of 39,632 confirmed cases, 37,755 recoveries, and 308 deaths.
