#PagodNaKami, #AcademicBreakNow trend on Twitter as School Year 2021-2022 opens

The hashtags PagodNaKami and AcademicBreakNow became trending on Twitter as the School Year (SY) 2021-2022 officially opened in public schools on Monday, Sept. 13.

Currently, #AcademicBreakNow has 13.4K tweets while #PagodNaKami has 12.5K tweets. Most of the tweets express frustration on the alternative learning delivery modalities implemented for both basic education and tertiary levels.

User with the Twitter handle @Juuanns__1 said: “This is my first time attending online school after being a modular student, today is our last day of exam before classes resume again tomorrow.... And yeah, this sht is tiring af. I hope all of you are doing well doe.” @ficstrejo, on the other hand, said: “talagang the gov't & deped won't give a shit about you unless related sa pera pinag-uusapan no? imagine begging for consideration & rest when that's the first thing anyone in authority needs to prioritize.”

For Twitter user with the handle @sipagin, “studying should be fun, but this university gives us workloads after workloads even on PRELIMS week. we honestly don't know where to focus, usually we cram these formative assessments and just pass tasks for the sake of passing it.”
@hunkyyy_gorg, on the other hand, said: “you may say that we are exaggerating or being oa about our academic tasks, but honestly, we are tired. before, we our students who want to study and gain knowledge that we can be used in future. but now, we are like robots who no longer know what to prioritize...”

Aside from calls for academic break, some users are also urging the government to provide concrete plans to the safe resumption of face-to-face classes at all levels.
@gayoftheyear69 said that “whats the freaking point of attending school if the government doesn't do anything to bringing back a safer school year, nakakahiya kasi only us and venezuela nalang ang hindi pa nag p-physical classes sa buong mundo.”

Classes in public schools for basic education officially started on Sept. 13 under a distance/blended learning set-up.
The Department of Education (DepEd) said there 24.6 million enrollees so far. Private schools were allowed to start their respective school openings early.
Without face-to-face classes, DepEd is once again implementing distance / blended learning for SY 2021-2022.

Meanwhile, classes at the tertiary level are also ongoing. Since face-to-face classes are also not allowed for college students, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) directed the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to implement Flexible Learning.
