Ipo Dam continues releasing water; Ambuklao, Binga dams reduce number of gates open

After days of heavy rainfall, three dams in Luzon have continued to conduct spilling operations on Monday, Sept. 13, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said the water level at Ipo Dam in Bulacan was at 100.79 meters, close to its 101.0-meter normal high water level.

"Ipo Dam management still conducting spilling operation with one gate open at 0.15 meter with a total discharge of 34.0 cms (cubic meters per second)," it pointed out.

PAGASA advised residents living along low-lying areas and near Angat river bank in Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, and Hagonoy in Bulacan to remain vigilant against possible flash floods.

Meanwhile, the number of gates open at the Ambuklao and Binga dams in Benguet was reduced on Monday.

As of 6 a.m., only two gates were open at Ambuklao Dam and three gates at Binga Dam, from four gates and five gates, respectively.

Both dams' gate openings were also reduced--from 2 meters to 1 meter at Ambuklao Dam and from 2.5 meters to 1.5 meters at Binga Dam.

The reservoir water level at Ambuklao Dam on Monday was at 751.54 meters, which is just 0.46 meters short of its 752.0-meter normal high water level.

Binga Dam's reservoir water level, meanwhile, was at 574.61 meters, which is just 0.39 meters lower than its 575.0-meter normal high water level.

The majority of water discharge from Ambuklao Dam flows into Binga Dam, which in turn, releases water to San Roque Dam in Pangasinan.

PAGASA monitored that the current water level of San Roque Dam in Pangasinan was at 264.87 meters, which is still far from its 280.0-meter normal high water level.
